village house

The house is situated in a high meadow above Aspen, Colorado, surrounded on the north by a forest of evergreen and aspen trees, to the east by scrub oak and beaver ponds and to the south and west by a field with expansive views of the mountains beyond. Seasonal changes in the vegetation and light are dramatic.

The house is a village of smaller buildings. The buildings have both public spaces on the ground floor, and private rooms for the different family members above. Each building is oriented to a different view, taking advantage of the full 360-degree orientation of the site. The public spaces between the buildings are carefully designed becoming piazzas in the village.
